Even if you are an experienced player at the craps, baccarat, or roulette table when you visit your local casino… sometimes the dealer will be dealing the cards or spinning the ball too quickly.
How do you know if you need to slow down the decisions at the table you are playing? Simply put, if you feel rushed in any way, it WILL have a negative impact on your play and you must take proactive steps to get the dealer to slow down.
Can that actually be done? Absolutely, you can influence the speed of the game you are playing.
One reason, players might hesitate to say or do anything to control the pace of the game is the common fear of negative reactions or remarks from the dealer or other players who are in a hurry. In my experience, any player in any kind of hurry is in a hurry to mainly do one thing – LOSE their money.
While in the casino, if you are serious about becoming a consistent winner, you should use every tool at your disposal to come home a winner.
You are not there to make friends, or make the casino staff (including the pitboss) like you. You are there to win – period.
So, Finally, how can you control the speed or the game?
First, you can politely ask the dealer if he/she would slow down a little because you are having trouble figuring out your bets.
They may actually honor your request…or not. This tactic also serves another purpose if, like my students, you know how to win regularly, it is good “cover” to appear inept and unsure what you are doing. Your successful blackjack card counters know what I am talking about.
The main weakness of this approach is that dealers who have worked for more than just a short time, have developed their own rhythm and speed in the games they deal. So while they may slow down while your request is fresh in their mind, they tend to revert back to their “normal” dealing speed.
I know a little more than the average player about what goes on from the dealer’s side of the table because several years back, I went to dealer’s school. I did not intend to go to work as a casino dealer but I knew it could help me in my pursuit of becoming a professional player…and it did.
In my next blog post, Part 2, I will reveal several other specific tactics any player can use to control the pace of almost any game they play.
Like anything else in life, if you don’t know something is possible, you will never benefit from it.
Knowledge is power and in the casino knowledge is king when it comes to putting your money to work.
