Are You Playing Like a MONKEY…In The Casino?

Have you ever had the experience while playing your favorite game like blackjack, craps, roulette or baccarat where you are doing really well…winning bet after bet, only to find yourself thinking,” I know this has to end soon so I better take my winnings and stop while a have a nice little profit?”

We all have had that experience and I am writing this as much for me as for you who are reading it.

I got the idea from reading stories (thanks Kevin) about how hunters capture wild monkeys in the jungle by attaching a coconut to a tree. The coconut has a small opening cut out, just large enough for the monkey to reach inside with an open hand to grab the food inside.

When the monkey makes a fist to take the food out, his (or her) hand is now too big to get it of out of the hole.

The monkey is now stuck in more ways than one. He either lets go of his “prize” and is free to leave or stubbornly holds on to it in the hope of figuring out how to keep his food and regain his freedom. Before long, he is caught.

The easiest part of gambling in the casino is making that first bet. The challenging part is deciding when to make the last one.

The way to treat gambling seriously…assuming you are not there just to have a good time, is to decide what your win goal is and what your stop loss goal is, BEFORE you go to the casino and make your first bet.

If you are doing really well, you should continue playing until you start losing more than winning. This is the only time you should continue playing when you reach your win goal for the day.

The main question should be how hard or easy was it to get to my goal? If it was any kind of a struggle, then it is time to quit.

If it was smooth sailing most of the way, don’t abandon ship until you hit some rough waters.

Since I developed the HYBRID system last fall, this “monkey” dilemma has really been harder to deal with for me than ever before. Why? Because the profits can grow so quickly, exponentially in fact, that based on my past losing experiences, (45 years worth) it is hard to stay in a good shoe once I am up +50. 60 or even 100 units (there I said it again and it is still true…HYBRID can regularly win hundreds of units in a SINGLE shoe)!

Fortunately for my students, who are younger than I and have had fewer losing sessions wired into their brains…they should find it easier not to play like that monkey.
